About the Show
An indoor guard show with music:
youtube.com/watch?v=Rgx90-bM71U
The piece was composed by Rob Esrock when he challenged the community to name any five instruments and a time signature and he would write a short piece based on it.
I challenged him to write a piece in 5/8 using Harmonica, Timbales, Temple Blocks, Didgeridoo, and Vibra-Slap - and was pleasantly surprised with the piece he produced in response.
The piece, to me, has the feel of a primitive tribal ritual of some sort- so I looked to photos of the Australian Outback, and the aborigines (who invented the didgeridoo) to inspire my color choices. The single green flag symbolizes life holding on and thriving despite the difficult journey of a harsh environment like the outback itself- a plant lost in a near wasteland that is trying it's best to make life difficult that somehow manages to survive and grow.
