Which Writers Influence You?
Matt Wasson, why?
His drill is CLEAN. Perfect spacing, the staging compliments every other section, and it's not impossible. hlid was the first writer I LOVED, he hasn't published a show since 09 or 10, so I would really suggest you go watch some of his, he's what I aspired and still aspire to be. Go check some of his out: micromarching.com/player/hlid Fran, one word, creativity.

Jeff Sacktig. Nuff said.
^^ Jeff Sacktig.. He writes drill for the Cadets and it was their drill that attracted me to follow DCI...He also writes the drill for my high school band...Like my sync show I recently made based on my high school band...was also based on his drill lol. :)
If we're going real life, Jamey Thompson, Myron Rosander, and Pete Weber.
Tellesus, Pedazos, Matt Wasson, Landry, and Micheal Gaines have all influenced my drill a great amount. If I synched shows, I'd also have to say Mojo and Fran.
MML - Tellz, hlid
Real Life - Jeff Sacktig, Mike Hardiek
MML - Craig, Landry, MARCOpolo. Joe1, acelj9, and a couple others. Most of the influence though is of competitive nature, to try to create shows that compete with what they come up with.
Real life - Michael Gaines + Jamey Thompson + Tim Fairbanks + Matt Heard
Wow...I feel really left out on the real-life writers by name, but I really have loved any and all Cavaliers drill by Michael Gaines and recently I have enjoyed the Bluecoats' 2010 and 2011 drillwriting. I don't know who writes for them, but I like their sense of style a lot right now.
MML - Landry, acelj9, Will Panter, Justin Altrogge, and pedazos are all great writers who influence me the most. Thanks, guys. Log in to add a comment. |

I guess I'll go first. (There are more but these are the top ones)
pedazos in the way how much creativity he puts in his shows and how the drill matches the theme perfectly.
tellz in the the technicality and difficulty of the drill he produces. He set a high standard for others and I hope to be as good of a designer as him one day.
Landry Kendrick in the staging of each individual section mixing with each other perfectly and also curved drill. I'm atrocious at curved drill and staging but watching his shows give me hope that one day I'll master those drill qualities.
