Sousaphone troubles

Gatocat May '12
At rehearsal yesterday, a bottle got stuck into one of my section mate's sousaphone. I tried doing some tuba acrobatics to loosen it, but it doesn't seem to want to budge.

We're marching in a Memorial Day parade, but immediately after the parade we're supposed to be sending all sousaphones to the shop. But, I'd like to get the bottle out so we have everyone playing on Monday.

Does anyone know of any way I could get the bottle out there before we warm up/ preset? (It's a fiberglass, by the way) Or am I stuck having to wait until bandcamp to hear the full section play again?

Did you tell your director? They might kno a trick or two...otherwise you're outta luck.

Try twisting the bottle slowly while pulling ( not too hard ).

I'm not advocating bringing a weapon to a school, but if you take a "knife like object" and stick it through the bottle, then pull, it should come out. Unless the bottle is cap-side up. Then just stick a shoelace around it.

(edit) Upon second read that sounds like sarcasm. Really, don't bring weapons to school.

It wound up going to the shop after Memorial day, they freed it.

I wouldn't think of bringing a knife like object. Although for future reference (I hope nobody would be stupid enough to replicate this problem) I'm not adverse to bringing a sousaphone home and digging out my old scout knife.

^ I've done that with a personal horn. it wasn't a bottle, but I stabbed the object in question (a ball) with a knife and pulled it out. It also wasn't a sousaphone >.> Stop questioning it.
