Facebook Page and Other Business

Hey guys! I’ve been kinda quiet lately, and I apologize for that, but I’ve been busy with real life and haven’t had much of a chance to design. Hopefully that will change soon, as I have a ton of exciting shows in my freezer that I’d like to finish up and publish soon. :-)

Anyways, I have two orders of business I’d like to put out there. The first is that Joe has recently handed over control of both of the Facebook and Twitter pages to me. Not to say that he won’t be involved with them anymore, but I will be helping him out a lot as he is busy enough already and social media marketing is actually something I’m interested in as a career opportunity. I see it as a great chance to continue to grow the site as Facebook is not only a free, but efficient method of marketing (if done right).

What I need from you guys is three things:
1) Go “like” the Facebook page right now if you haven’t already: facebook.com/micromarching
2) Share the page with your friends. If you are on the page, on the left hand side under the information and “likes” you will see a list of actions. Select “share”, write a nice message about the site when the box pops up (such as “Check out MML!”) and click “share page.”
3) Give me ideas on what you would like seen done with the page, whether its “liking” a certain page, coming up with interactive activities via status updates, or posting certain material related to MML (photos, videos, links, etc).

Most of you guys are really loyal to MML and that’s awesome. Hopefully you can really help us and continue to get the word out. Wouldn’t it be awesome if one day we had over 10,000 followers on Facebook and maybe even affiliated with DCI or WGI? It can only happen with your help!

The second order of business- I just wanted to compliment everyone on how awesome everyone has been acting! Yes, I know the site is kind of in its off-season, but it’s been a while since I’ve had to delete any rude comments or shows or ban people for acting stupid. Hopefully the other captains will agree with me on this one. Keep it up!

All for now...like the page, share with friends, and let’s here those suggestions!

Congratulations, Dave!

You could always post (by agreement, of course) pictures of top shows and the like on the page as photos. That would be neat.

*Edit* - I shared the page with all my friends on Facebook, and I liked it many months ago. :)

I don't know how this would work, or if Joe would even be up to it, but maybe there could be some sort of contest where he gives out one month of premium as a prize or something.

Like "Get 10 people to like Micro Marching League on facebook, and you will be entered for a chance to win a month of premium features!"

I've seen it work wonders on other pages, and it might help get more fans and exposure for MML.

Another thing that might be fun is like what John said, maybe create an album of cool sets on micromarching with the caption like "Here is a set from Dave Foth's show [SHOW TITLE], see the full show here: [SHOW LINK]

I notice fans can't write on the wall. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing being that people can't report bugs or spam on the wall there resulting in you having to remove the spam or comment "Hi, please use our report a bug feature." The bad thing about it is that when people write on pages walls, it won't show up on other people's news feed and it won't gain exposure.

Let the people who are fans of the page know certain things. For example:

"Have any questions about how to make your show better? Check out our tutorial section:
micromarching.com/doc/videos.php"

Those are just some of my ideas. Hope they help.

Those all sound like wonderful ideas!

Thanks Jerry, that stuff is all great. I’ve already thought about the promotional and contest ideas, and if I can make it work well, I think it would be a great idea.

Posting a set from a popular or good show would also be an easy and great idea. Perhaps I could make it a weekly thing, and use the top show on the list form “the past 7 days”?

As far as the issue with the wall is concerned- that’s what Joe has it set as and would be something that I would need to run through with him. Of course, as you mentioned, the issue here is preventing people from writing immature things, but I think if the page is moderated well enough, it hopefully shouldn’t be a big issue.

Everyone here is of a mature age where they should be able to handle it. Besides, we're all musicians. We keep it classy ^.^

Perhaps we could promote some events such as drillcasts where members do a cast that has been announced on the Facebook page.
