Update #42 -- Follow & Group Select

Joe Lesko captainFeb '10  /  edited Feb '10
I just deployed the 42nd update. Some basic things have changed, so please read carefully.
Follow System
You can now receive a message when certain players publish a show.
Just use the Follow link in the upper right corner of their profile.

Double-Click Group Selection
To restore a previous selection, just double-click any of the marchers
from that group. To select by Section instead, double-click a second time.

More instructions to come, but for now, check out this video/post:
micromarching.com/forum/topic/11040/new-group-sele...

Select Line
Select one marcher at one end of a line, then Shift-Click the marcher on the other end

Undo (Ctrl-Z)
This is more predictable and useful now, and it restores the previous selection

Minor:

- Relative Scaling. Hold the button on a marcher to center on them while scaling
(Thanks JessePHSpit & EvanGregory)
- Block shortcut (B) can now be used to clean existing blocks without accidentally changing the size
- Ctrl-Rotate is now more precise (Thanks EvanGregory)
- Fixed issue with circle shortcut re-scaling slightly
- Clean Curve (& key) no longer nudges marchers on the ends
- Pop-up warning if changing caption or equipment after first set (Thanks Tellesus & musicloverrmm)
- Animation (A key) now only affects one type of guard equipment at a time (Thanks Johnathan Doerr)
- Pop-up warning for certain shortcuts if marchers aren't selected in order (Thanks Zach Piner)
- Yardline snap ("Y") is turned off by default for Leads and above (Thanks Justin Ekstrom)
- Tenors are a bit wider now, to be more realistic. (Thanks ducksoup4pa)

Changes:

- Yardline interval is now 1-step only. (Thanks pedazos, Tellesus & fisher aza 5)
- Mouse wheel now Rotates. Hold Shift to scale. Hold Ctrl to arc. (note: use ~ key for Safari/Chrome)
- Removed ability to create groups with Shift-click. (see above)

On the main site:

- Profile Feedback tab renamed to "Feed". Now has total Likes, Favorites, and Followers
- Profile Comments tab renamed to "Wall"
- Critique threads automatically lock when you publish a show, and auto-lock after 2 days
- Can now open hidden shows directly (Thanks Johnathan Doerr & Brad Becker)
- Profile image size increased to 1 MB (Thanks Chris Yashko)
This update was mainly about making the editor easier to use. Thanks to everyone who sent in ideas through the Suggestion Box or participated in the "Complain!" thread.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Wow! I love it
Rob Esrock Feb '10
The follow system is great!
Dave Foth captainFeb '10
Wow...

You know it's the minor, little updates like these- fix a couple bugs here, throw in a couple of design tools there- that are sometimes even more impressive than the big updates with new uniform designs or whatever. Awesome job Joe and thanks for your continued work to make this site better and better with each passing day.
Awesome Joe :)
Chris Yashko Feb '10
I said its magical!
bando09swimmer Feb '10
i like it. :)
as06 Feb '10
Everything but the changes to the grid system is alright. I need the grid in all its intervals.
Jerry Feb '10
This is great. I love the scroll wheel rotate.
Boy Wander Feb '10
Grid is now one step only - what does this mean?

I think that if you press cntrl + direction key (up, down, left or right), it should move the marcher one spot that corresponds with whatever interval you are using at the time (3:1 4:1 or 5:1) instead of the same for each interval. That way you don't have to use the mouse to move someone over one real interval.
This is very nice. I love the "follow" option.
Gcntra12 Feb '10
Good job Joe! I like it!
ducksoup4pa Feb '10
Joe, I clicked on the design tab right before I clicked the update, and I noticed the tenors. Thank you so much. =]
Like, I've noticed full size tenors are about the size of 2 to 3 snares and the ones on here were just like 1 to 2 snares. So, thank you.

Now...If we could only get a spiral tool... ;)
bluesky94 Feb '10
when i click a different set it like refreshes the whole page?
Joe Lesko captainFeb '10
bluesky, can you go through the checklist on the Report a Bug page and open a new topic if it's still a problem? Thanks
bluesky94 Feb '10
yup
hawk80 Feb '10
I think that's awesome! The only thing that bugs me is that im so used to scaling with the mouse wheel, but I'll get used to it.
johnny1514 Feb '10
i dont like the new group setting but other than that everythings fine
crb2 Feb '10
No way to turn grid back on? Jw. I can deal.
ducksoup4pa Feb '10
Ok, making it so the number count goes away when the mouse goes into the corner when holding a group. AMAZING.
Joe Lesko captainFeb '10
@crb2, "Y" is the shortcut key to toggle the grid on/off.

@ducksoup, it's been that way for a long time now. =)
Mattwhiz Feb '10
I don't understand the 'Grid' thing.
Joe Lesko captainFeb '10
It's just the Yardline snap. It used to be 3:1, 4:1, etc. Now it's just a one-step interval, and it's off by default once you hit Lead.

(I just updated the parent post to make that a bit clearer.)
Jerry Feb '10
I think the new grid thing is great.
bogey Feb '10
Love the 1 step interval, makes things much easier for me.
Nate Hoppel Feb '10
me too... :)
ducksoup4pa Feb '10
@ Joe, are you serious a few days ago I remembered getting annoyed by it, no way it was that long ago.
Joe Lesko captainFeb '10
I think you were complaining about the fact that it stays there when you're selecting marchers in that area, which is still an open issue.
Ak42u Feb '10
One of the best updates yet. Thanks Joe. There are some excellent ideas in this one : )
bandgeek12 Feb '10
just like bluesky94, mine resets itself too!
Joe Lesko captainFeb '10
bandgeek, that should be fixed already... can you open a new topic in the bug section, go through the checklist, and tell me what is happening? Thanks
