bass drums need to be in an order to perform, the runs they do depend on eachother, bass runs to go to the tempo the drum major gives but to make it clean they need to listen to eachother.
visual reasons for basses to be in line are the from smallet to biggest thing. its obvious and very messy when the bass line is out of line.
bass drum moves where they do go out of line are ok in moderation as long as they go right back to the line format.
