Good things come when you are patient. I started my drill writing career on this site. Work at it and be patient with your skills, and you could too.

I am the drill tech and recruitment director for EXCELSIOR drum and bugle corps.

I currently am part of Precision Marching design. If you are interested in having me as your performing groups drill writer please visit the website below and enter all of your information and I will respond promptly. Johnnathan Doerr is a cheaper modern Marching Drill writer and will work with whatever kind of group you possibly can imagine!

I love it when you compliment/like/favorite my shows
I usually don't reply to thank you.
But I do love it.

I have many front page shows.

People ask me what my method of drill is

I say:

The drill needs to make since. Look at the OVERALL PICTURE and OVERALL FLOW, not just set to set. Make sure the WHOLE SHOW flows not just one transition to the next. To be as "seamless" as possible. The show should flow. Not be jolty. What I think is if there is even a small amount of awckwardness in your set transitions then it is not good enough and you should go a different direction. My shows must be as close to perfect as possible. If its not perfect then I scrap the set and start over. I will spend 1-2 days on just one set. That's what it takes to make a good show. I have lots of things going on at once in my show. Some people don't like that, but some do. It's an opinion. It's my style. I think having many things going on at once then smashing a huge impact set out of no where causes more of a "wow" factor, because so much is going on then BAM! You have only one thing going on. You don't see it coming. Staging is important as well. You can't expect your drum line to play together 75 yards apart or you can't have a trumpet feature back field. It just doesn't happen, but at the same time USE THE WHOLE FIELD! Don't just stay in the center. Spread out! Make your forms big! Cover more ground! It leaves a bigger impression. Use common sense. Single out parts in the right sections of the field, but use mass drill when there are no "singled out" moment. I also love shows that can have curvilinear and box/line drill at once. It compliments each other. To have a huge box with arcs around it. It is contradictory, but it compliments the drill well. I attempt to apply that into my drill. I love drill that contradicts itself. I love drill that has depth and logic at the same time while it also contradicts itself. It's very advanced, but if you look at my drill you see that it is just like that. Logical, but contradicting. It's very appealing to the eye. I rarely do just ONE style of drill in my sets or in a show. Unless it is for the theme or for ironic GE or for a huge impact. I always have lots going on and lines and curves at once. Rarely do I strictly have one style. Think outside the box. Transitions are always important. Always. Do not sacrifice transition GE for forms. Forms last for one second, but a transitition can last 4-5 seconds at a time. You see? transitions have a bigger/longer lasting impact. Random Fact: A good title and good description USUALLY means good show ;)

Judging:

A "normal" show gets a 5. Everyone starts out with a 5. Always. If you don't wow me you stay at a five. Collisions will knock you to a 3-4 and if you seriously just piss me off your going to get a 1-2. Sometimes the drill I watch is just redicoulus. Seriously. If it is OK or pretty good and realistic I will give it a 7. If you really wow me and have seamless drill but there are small bumps (and I mean REALLY small bumps) you will get a 7-8. It's really hard to get that from me. 9's are for the best. Near Perfect drill. The only reason I didn't probably give a 9 show a 10 is because I saw something in the drill that I didn't agree with. Or something I would have done different. The ONLY time I give a 10 is if it has EVERY form of ***The perfect drill*** and the wow factor is in EVERY SET. Then you will get a 1. I have given only about two 10's. One to Tellesus and one to pedazos. That's it.

***The Perfect Drill***

You can see the application of "common sense"
Seamless
Perfect form spacing
Think outside the box
Use all styles of drill
Use the field
Evidence of "thought" and "depth" put into the drill.
